Diagnostic Evaluations

A speech-language diagnostic evaluation is typically warranted prior to the start of therapy in order to:

• identify if a speech-language related disorder is present or absent,

• identify the severity of a speech-language related disorder if one is determined,

• support the need for services,

• rationalize the need for referral/additional testing from other specialty providers, and

• guide the development of a treatment plan.

 

Please note, that although it is referred to as a "speech" and "language" evaluation, it can be inclusive of:

1. Augmentative and alternative communication assessments,  

2. Aphasia assessments,

3. Cognitive-linguistic assessments, 

4. Dysarthria of speech assessments,

5. Feeding/swallowing assessments, and

6. Literacy/writing assessments, 

7. Among other assessments based on a client's main area of concern. ​
